Introduction

We absolutely take electricity for granted - it powers every aspect of our lives.

This WebQuest focusses on static electricity, the effects of which were first discovered by the Greeks who recorded in the sixth century BC that amber, when rubbed with fur, could attract little pieces of dry straw. Our word 'electron' comes from the Greek word for amber, and those early Greek experiments using amber are what led to the term electricity and all related words derived from the term.
